on their mileage programs beginning October 1, 2004. This is the
first cooperation of this kind across the Taiwan Strait. In October,
passengers taking China Airlines and China Eastern airlines flights
between Taiwan and mainland China will be able to accumulate mileage
on the entire trip, making it faster to accumulate travel mileage
in exchange for free upgrades and free tickets.
China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines held a signing ceremony
on September 10, with Mr. Brian Chou, Senior Vice President of
China Airlines and Mr. Zhang Jian Zhong, Vice President of China
Eastern Airlines, representing both sides. In the future, members
of the China Airlines Dynasty Frequent Flyer Program will be able
to accumulate mileage in their accounts when traveling on China
Eastern Airlines. Also, members of China Eastern’s Eastern Miles
Club will be able to enjoy the same benefits when traveling on
China Airlines flights. The accumulated mileage can be used to
trade for free tickets from both airlines’ mileage programs.
At the first stage, all China Airlines international flights,
and sectors of China Eastern’s Hong Kong-Shanghai and Okinawa-Shanghai
flights, will be eligible for this cooperation program. In the
future, both airlines will expand the cooperation network. China
Airlines is also negotiating mileage program cooperation with
other Chinese carriers.
China Airlines currently operates 105 weekly flights from Taipei
and Kaohsiung to Hong Kong, and 14 weekly flights from Taipei
to Okinawa. Beginning in October, passengers traveling from Taiwan
to Shanghai can accumulate mileage for the whole trip, which they
can exchange for free China Eastern tickets to Shanghai.
