July 29, 2004, Taipei, Taiwan –Mr. Yao-Chung
Chiang took the position of China Airlines’ Chairman today. A
hand-over ceremony was held in the head office of China Airlines
in Taipei. After the ceremony, China Airlines staff lined up to
bid farewell to Mr. Yun-Ling Lee, the retired Chairman.
In the ceremony, Mr. Chiang mentioned that China Airlines is
one of the leading names in the aviation industry, with high staff
moral. “China Airlines has achieved outstanding operation results
in terms of flight safety, strategy planning, product innovation
and service enhancement,” said Chairman Chiang. “On the solid
ground built by Chairman Lee, I will endeavor my talent to the
company and make it further flourish.”
Chairman Chiang emphasized that in the future he will continue
to encourage innovation, enhance service quality, improve flight
safety, built a better working environment for employees and generate
more profit for shareholders.
The retired Chairman, Mr. Yun-Ling Lee, expressed his appreciation
for the long support from China Airlines staff in the ceremony.
He also wished China Airlines can fulfill its vision to become
the most reliable airline in the world.
Mr. Yao-Chung Chiang was born in 1952 and obtained a Ph.D. degree
of Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Prior to joining China Airlines, Mr. Chiang is the Vice Chairman
of Public Construction Commission since May 2000. Mr. Chiang has
solid experience in the fields of transportation, public construction
and business management. His professional career include Director
General, Deputy Director General and Chief Engineer of Department
of Rapid Transit Systems, Taipei City Government, Board member
of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Director and Research Fellow
of Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology.
