Come Closer For An Insight Of China Airlines

CI Inaugurates Hiroshima Passenger Service

June 2, 2004, Taipei, Taiwan- China Airlines held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to inaugurate its new Taipei-Hiroshima passenger service. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Phillip Wei, President of China Airlines, and many officials from Taiwan and Japan also participated in the event. Inauguration celebration for Hiroshima-Taipei flight will be held in Hiroshima on June 3.

“This new Taipei-Hiroshima service is convenient for passengers from Taipei who wish to go to Hiroshima, and it is also an easy option for Japanese travelers who wish to visit Taiwan,” said Mr. Phillip Wei at the ceremony at CKS International Airport. “We believe in the potential of Hiroshima, and look forward to fast-growing air traffic and economic links between Hiroshima and Taiwan.”

The Hiroshima flights (CI112) depart Taipei every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 4:40pm, and arrive in Hiroshima at 7:55pm. The return flights (CI113) leave Hiroshima at 10:00am every Monday, Thursday and Friday and arrive in Taipei on the same day at 11:55am. Boeing 737-800 jets are used on the Hiroshima service, with a configuration of 8 seats in Dynasty Class, and 150 seats in Economy Class.

In 2003, about 5 million passengers departed from Hiroshima for overseas travel. Currently, only four airlines operate international services to Hiroshima, serving Beijing, Harbin and Seoul. CAL’s new service will provide convenient air transport for Hiroshima passengers to southeast Asia via Taipei, and will provide an easy option for Taiwanese travelers who wish to visit Hiroshima, a thriving port city. China Airlines has operated charter services to Hiroshima since 1992, with around 100 flights per year.

Hiroshima is located in Western Honshu, and is one of the major industrial cities in Japan. The city is famous for its automobile, steel and chemical industries, and it is also well known for two World Culture Heritage sites – the A-bomb Dome and Itsukushima Shrine. The A-bomb Dome is a memorial dedicated to remembering the atomic bomb in 1945.

To meet different demands, China Airlines has designed various Dynasty Packages for Hiroshima, including tours for individual travelers. Members of the Dynasty Flyer Program will enjoy bonus mileage incentives by traveling to and from Hiroshima, through the end of 2004.
